Echo’s voice creates a major dubbing effort, considering that the person playing her must record several new lines for each new hero in the game:
That meant the actress not only had the challenge in that she had to perform in different languages, as different characters, male, female, and match that cadence, there was the additional question of––how many of these other lines said by different characters are we replicating? What we came down to was the ult lines and the abilities. If she clones Roadhog, she’ll use his chain and say, ‘Get over here.’ But it’s only the ult lines where there’s a parity between Echo and the hero she Duplicates, where you’ll hear both voices in sync.

As can be seen in the Origins video, Echo’s voice is an imitation of its creator Mina Liao, a Singaporean character. Therefore she includes Singlish words, a dialect that phonetically mixes the official languages of Singapore: English, Malay, Tamil and Mandarin Chinese. After Echo’s release in the game, the Singaporean community sent a lot of feedback online on how to pronounce Singlish correctly. This led to a re-dubbing of some voicelines with more accurate pronunciation.
